Mr. Yoichi Sugimoto joined Honda R&D in 1986.
He contributed to the development of a variety of technologies including Electronic Brake Force Distribution and the world’s first Automatic Emergency Braking systems.
In 2012, he moved to Honda R&D Americas for ITS research.
After returning to Japan in 2015 as an Executive Chief Engineer, he oversaw active safety, advanced driver assistance, and automated driving technologies, and led the development of a highway automated driving system.
Then, in March 2021, Honda introduced the world’s first Level-3 automated driving vehicle into the Japanese market.
Since 2016, he served as a sub-director for an automated driving project in SIP-adus, organized by the Cabinet Office of Japan.
Since 2023, he has been a Fellow at Honda R&D.
